To Coach Urban Meyer,
It was a long, rough season for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Whether it was the off field allegations that caused you to be suspended for the first three games of the season, or the upset loss to Purdue that caused you to miss out on the College Football Playoff, you have done everything you could for the state of Ohio and their beloved Buckeyes!
Despite several close decisions in games against weaker opponents, you managed to coach these young boys into men and will see most of them get drafted to the National Football League. The amount of success you and your players have is undescribable, and we’ll let the resume speak for itself!
This resume includes 186 wins over a 17 year coaching career. In that time, you have won three National Championships (2006, 2008 and 2014) and 11 out of your 14 bowl games. But we still have one more win left to get, and that win will be in the Rose Bowl on January 1st, 2019 against the PAC 12’s Washington Huskies. It will be the first time you have ever coached in a Rose Bowl, so why not make it a great one? I know I’ll be watching this one real close, and I hope the Buckeye Nation gives you the standing ovation you deserve! In fact, I think all of college football should.
It’s a shame how you’ve been left out of the College Football Playoff for the past two seasons and you won’t be able to walk away the right way. But at least you’re walking away knowing what kind of impact you left on the game of football! As a football fan of both the professional and collegiate level, all I can do now is, “Thank You Urban Meyer.”
Thank you for all the times you have allowed us to hate you! Yes, it doesn’t go without saying that as a Georgia Bulldogs fan, I couldn’t stand you and the Florida Gators, especially when you coached former QB Tim Tebow to a National Championship. Despite that, you have always been respected.
Thank you for all the times you made us love you! Where I have loved you was in the first inaugural College Football Playoff in 2014, when you led the Buckeyes to a 42-35 victory over the Nick Saban led Alabama Crimson Tide and then you went on to beat the Oregon Ducks in the National Championship game 42-20.
Thank you for giving us as fans some of the greatest moments in college football history! And thank you for putting your life at risk each and every day to do what you love the most, but now we understand it’s time to go.
The time for suffering is now over and you are right to walk away and be the family man you always wanted to be! You’ve been dealing with brain damage since 1999 when you weren’t even a head coach yet, but you still managed to give us great years that will always be remembered!
You left the University of Florida in 2010 because of it, but then returned two years later as a head coach. In 2014 you got a procedure done for the arachnoid cyst on your brain and that honestly should’ve been it there! But once you fell to your knees on the sideline during the Indiana game on Oct. 6th, we all had that feeling that this was it. All we can do is thank you for everything!

I never understood the backlash from the public when his assistant coach was found to have issues with his wife. People would never want to be held accountable for their employees illegal activities, but we love to blame coaches for their players and assistant coaches bad behavior.

I agree, but the coaches are the biggest pieces to the University and their team! No matter how did what or how they do it the fall will always be put on the head coach! I’m just glad Meyer doesn’t have to deal with all the nonsense
