We found out yesterday that Jimmy Garoppolo thought he was better than Tom Brady during his time with the New England Patriots. One can only assume if he thought it then, he still thinks it now that he’s with the San Fransisco 49ers. Let me get this out of the way right now, Jimmy Garoppolo is not better than Tom Brady.
Tom Brady is one of, if not the best quarterback of all time. Brady has been to eight Super Bowls, winning five of them. He’s been the MVP of the NFL three times. We’re talking about a three time NFL MVP and a five time Super Champion, and Garoppolo thinks he’s better than that? What has Garoppolo done?
Garoppolo does have two Super Bowl rings, but the work to get to that point and in those Super Bowl games was all done by Tom Brady. Then there’s Garoppolo’s record as a starter in the NFL. He hasn’t lost a game in which he’s been the starter, but he’s only started seven games in his NFL career. Wait until next season and that streak will end. I can guarantee you the 49ers aren’t going undefeated next season.
Then you’ve got all the records Tom Brady holds in the NFL. You’ve got regular season wins, playoff wins, and a whole lot of Super Bowl records. I’m sure Jimmy has some type of NFL records, but nothing comparing to Tom Brady. Garoppolo has a long way to go before he can claim himself better than Brady.
What I do love about Garoppolo saying he thought he was better than Tom Brady, is the confidence he displayed in himself. One reason why Tom Brady has been so successful in the NFL is because of his confidence. Garoppolo shares that confidence with Brady. Confidence is something you have to have when you play quarterback in the NFL, and Garoppolo isn’t lacking in that department.
So far in his career, Garoppolo has a 99.7 quarterback rating, which is right up there with the best of them. He hasn’t done it over the course of a full season yet, but he’ll have the opportunity to do so shortly. I don’t doubt Garoppolo can be a very good NFL quarterback. The way the 49ers are rebuilding, he may even win another Super Bowl, this time as the starting quarterback. We’ve only got to see a small amount of Garoppolo so far. How about you at least play a full season as a starter first before you say you’re better than Brady Jimmy?
We’ll see how the rest of Garoppolo’s career in the NFL goes, but as of right now, I don’t want to hear anything about him being better than Tom Brady, not even from him. It’s great he has confidence in himself, but don’t say you’re better than one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. Just don’t. It’s rare to accomplish the things Tom Brady has accomplished in the NFL. It doesn’t happen during every NFL career. Maybe Garoppolo is one of those rare quarterbacks, but I don’t think so. He’s good, but he’s not Tom Brady good.
