We’re only two days away from the 2018 NFL draft. As a Jets fan, this is a big year for us. What quarterback will the Jets take? There are a lot of other things people are wondering. Will the Bills trade up for a quarterback? Will any teams trade up if a player is still on the board they really want? Will New England trade back in the draft to collect more picks, or trade those picks for a player like Odell Beckham Jr? Will the Giants take a skill position or a quarterback at number two? This is one of the most hyped up drafts in a long time from my understanding. There hasn’t been a year like this where so many teams are putting all their eggs in a basket. Get ready to find out who your team is gonna take starting now. Now on the clock are the Cleveland Browns with the first overall pick.
1. Cleveland Browns: Josh Allen/QB/Wyoming
I have the Browns taking Allen here because I think he has the most upside out of any quarterback. The man has an arm that you don’t see much. Learning from a guy like Tyrod Taylor, who learned from Joe Flacco, can hopefully teach Allen and help him become a more accurate passer.
2. New York Giants: Saquon Barkley/RB/Penn State
The Giants feel Eli Manning has a couple more years left. Pairing Barkley up with Beckham Jr. and Evan Engram at tight end would give Eli enough weapons for the coming years to make the playoffs. Barkley will shine in the New York spot light.
3. New York Jets: Sam Darnold/QB/USC
The Jets have been linked more to Josh Rosen and Baker Mayfield, but Sam Darnold falling to them at three is a no brainer. Darnold has all the intangibles coaches love. In New York, he has the opportunity to compete and also learn from two talented quarterbacks in McCown and Bridgewater.
4. TRADE ALERT: Indianapolis Colts trade with Cleveland Browns: Colts gets the 4th overall pick. Browns get 6th, 36th, 49th and 100th overall.
Colts select: Quenton Nelson/OG/Notre Dame
You’re all reading this thinking I’m crazy. Who would trade up for an offensive lineman?? Well when you’re the Colts who can’t keep your superstar quarterback healthy, you have to. Nelson is the safest pick in the draft and also the most talented player overall. He will be a multiple year All-Pro player and the Colts need to keep Luck safe for years to come. Colts pull the trigger, thinking the Broncos may have drafted Nelson with the 5th overall pick.
5. Denver Broncos: Josh Rosen/QB/UCLA
The Broncos may have signed Case Keenum, but he has only had one good year. The Broncos also flopped on the Paxton Lynch pick, so here is where they get their quarterback of the future. Elway will be very excited to work with Rosen, considering both had “issues” going into the draft.
6. TRADE ALERT: Cleveland Browns trade 6th overall pick to Buffalo Bills for 12th, 22nd, and 56th overall draft choices.
Buffalo Bills select: Baker Mayfield/QB/Oklahoma
Mayfield is the last sure first round talent quarterback left. The Bills had to move up and secure him. He brings fire and passion that Buffalo fans will love. I can’t wait to see people in Mayfield jerseys next year getting thrown through tables.
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Derwin James/DB/ FSU
James gets to stay in Florida and join Justin Evans at free safety. Derwin James has the range of a free safety, but the power and tackling ability of a linebacker. For you Bucs fans, he is essentially a combination of John Lynch and Ronde Barber, very scary.
8. Chicago Bears: Bradley Chubb/EDGE/NCST
The Bears get one of the most talented players at eight. He helps fill the void of an edge rusher, but also be able to put his hand in the dirt. Him playing opposite of Leonard Floyd will be scary.
9. San Fransisco 49ers: Roquan Smith/LB/UGA
The 49ers drafted Rueben Foster last year, but recently he has been in trouble with the law and it doesn’t look good for him. 49ers have to secure a linebacker for the future here with this pick.
10. Oakland Raiders: Minkah Fitzpatrick/DB/BAMA
Gruden gets his defensive back of the future. He needs to build his defense like he did in Tampa Bay. Here he gets a corner-stone at safety in Fitzpatrick who can do anything Gruden asks of him.
11. Miami Dolphins: Denzel Ward/CB/OSU
The dolphins get a steal. Ward fell pretty hard here. Ward provides an instant start. It’s been awhile since they had someone of his caliber at corner.
12. Cleveland Browns: Mike McGlinchey/OT/Notre Dame
The Browns get their tackle of the future to fill in for future hall of famer Joe Thomas after he retired. He fills a big need at tackle.
13. Washington Redskins: Vita Vea/NT/UW
Vea fills the need of a dominant nose tackle for the Redskins. Vea will be a force to reckon with and will help the outside rushers. He will command a double team on most plays.
14. Green Bay Packers:D.J Moore/WR/Maryland
The Packers lost Jordy Nelson this offseason due to him not wanting to redo his contract. Moore provides Rodgers another weapon, something he will be happy to have.
15. Arizona Cardinals: Calvin Ridley/WR/BAMA
Larry Fitzgerald is the definition of wine, he’s gotten better as he ages. The Cardinals haven’t paired him with a nice cheese though. Calvin Ridley is going to be that nice slice of cheddar. Ridley will bring some excitement to this Cardinals offense.
16. Baltimore Ravens: Tremaine Edmunds/LB/ Virginia Tech
Edmunds will pair up nicely with C.J Mosely. Edmunds has insane size for a middle linebacker being 6’4″. He will force teams to throw outside because they won’t be able to throw many slant routes with a linebacker that big inside.
17. San Diego Chargers: Da’ron Payne/DT/BAMA
The Chargers have an amazing outside pass rushing combo with Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. Payne helps fill the interior need. Whether he plays nose or 3 tech, he will try to collapse the pocket and allow Bosa and Ingram to get more sacks.
18. Seattle Seahawks: Marcus Davenport/EDGE/ UTSA
Davenport brings in size and potential that is unmatched. He will fill in the role of pass rusher left behind when the Seahawks traded Michael Bennett this year.
19. Dallas Cowboys: Courtland Sutton/WR/SMU
Cutting Dez Bryant after a bad year opens up the need for a WR. They signed Allen Hurns, but that isn’t enough. Dak Prescott needs another weapon. Jason Witten is getting older and older, and a young talented outside guy like Sutton will help.
20. Detroit Lions: Sony Michel/RB/UGA
Some people might consider this a reach, but after looking how running backs are becoming a big thing again in the first round, I think this is a great spot for Michel. The Lions have lacked running back talent since the days of Barry Sanders. They need a rushing offense to complement their passing attack. Matt Patrica being in New England and seeing all these versatile running backs allows him to secure one here.
21. Cincinnati Bengals: Kolton Miller/OT/UCLA
Miller will fill in at right tackle. The Bengals have missed on some recent tackle draft choices. Miller should be able to win the job and keep Andy Dalton upright.
22. Cleveland Browns: Mike Hughes/CB/UCF
Hughes may have had some off the field issues back in the day, but he seems to be on the right track now. Hughes will start at corner with recently acquired Damarious Randall moving to safety since coming from the Packers.
23. New England Patriots: Will Hernandez/OG/UTEP
Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time. Keeping him healthy is a must. Hernandez is the best offensive lineman left on the board.
24. Carolina Panthers: Harold Landry/EDGE/BC
Panthers need a pass rusher to help the defense. Landry finds an awesome opportunity to learn and play on the opposite side of Julius Peppers, a player he compares to in size.
25. Tennessee Titans: Rashaan Evans/EDGE/BAMA
Evans brings in versatility at the linebacker position. He played all over at Alabama. Evans can be a pass rusher or play inside in certain situations if need be. Linebackers in the NFL are asked to do a lot now and Evans can do it.
26. Atlanta Falcons: James Daniels/OL/IOWA
Daniels was a talented lineman at Iowa. He will help fill the needs of the Falcons on the interior and play guard next to Alex Mack.
27. New Orleans Saints: Lamar Jackson/QB/Louisville
Drew Brees is 39 years old and Sean Payton has to start thinking about the future. Get ready New Orleans, Jackson and Alvin Kamara are going to be here for the long haul. Payton will start to change the offense to work around a guy like Jackson.
28. Pittsburgh Steelers: Josh Jackson/CB/IOWA
Jackson is the big corner the Steelers need to cover guys like A.J Green, Jarvis Landry, and Michael Crabtree in the AFC North. Jackson brings the size and strength needed and also is use to playing in weather conditions similar to his college days.
29. Jacksonville Jaguars: Christian Kirk/WR/Texas A&M
The Jaguars are very loaded on defense, so they go offense. They get a talented skill position in a guy like Kirk to add to a receiving core that has lost both Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson.
30. Minnesota Vikings: Isaiah Wynn/OG/UGA
Wynn will play guard for the Vikings, who will look to him to pave the way for Dalvin Cook, who is returning from injury.
31. New England Patriots: Mike Gesicki/TE/Penn State
There is all this speculation of Rob Gronkowski retiring. Whether he stays or goes, Gesicki is Gronkowski 2.0 and will be a beast in an offense with a quarterback like Brady. This is a system that loves to use tight ends in its passing attack.
32. Philadelphia Eagles: Jaire Alexander/CB/Louisville
Alexander brings in a need at corner since the Eagles just cut one for getting in trouble with the law. Pairing up Alexander with Sidney Jones IV, who was considered a first round pick last year till he injured his knee, could provide a dominant duo at cornerback for the Eagles for the coming years.
