Super Bowl LII is David vs. Goliath. The reigning Super Bowl Champions and team everyone wants to see be taken down, goes up against the team that’s been counted out time and time again since their starting quarterback went down. The Patriots are going after their 6th Super Bowl title, while the Philadelphia Eagles are seeking their 1st ever championship.
What I’ve been hearing from most people is that they want the Eagles to win, but they think the Patriots are going to win. I mostly agree with that. By mostly I mean I think the outcome will be a Patriots victory, but I don’t fully agree because I don’t want the Eagles to win.
This Super Bowl is a lose lose situation for me. I don’t want the Patriots to win because they’re always in the Super Bowl. It’s boring to me to always have the same team there pretty much every year. It’s like the Warriors and Cavs being in the Finals every year now. It’s getting old to me. On the other hand, I don’t want the Eagles to win because I’m a Cowboys fan and they’re NFC East rivals. So I’ll be watching the Super Bowl, but whatever happens I’ll be disappointed either way.
Anyway, enough about that. I do think the Patriots will win, so let’s get into the reason why. First just let me say that I don’t think this will be an easy win for the Patriots. Philadelphia has fought their way to every victory. If the Eagles are down in this game, they won’t be giving up. If the Eagles are up, they won’t be letting up.
The Eagles dominated the Vikings defense, which was one of the best in the league, but now they face a whole new challenge. Tom Brady is arguably the greatest quarterback of all time. 5 Super Bowl Championships and 7 Super Bowl appearances. While Tom Brady is going to be a big challenge for the Eagles to handle, I don’t think he’s what they have to worry about the most.
The number one reason why I’m picking the Patriots, is because of Bill Belichick and the Patriots coaching staff. All season long, the Patriots coaching staff have been able to make adjustments very quickly. Against the Jaguars they struggled in the first half, but came back in the second half because they made adjustments. This coaching staff can find a problem, and then find an answer shortly after.
This team adjusts not only on their side of the ball, but adjusts to the opponents side as well. New England is very good at taking away a teams best players and what they do well. One player I think the Patriots will target is Nick Foles. At times this season, Foles has looked great. Take the game against Minnesota. He looked fantastic! At other times he’s looked like what our perception of Nick Foles was when he played for the Rams a couple seasons ago.
If the Patriots can come up with a game plan to make Foles look like the Rams Nick Foles, the Eagles will struggle offensively, giving Tom Brady more time on the field. Bill Belichick and his coaching staff will find a way to get to Foles. Now remember that the Eagles won’t quit. Just because Foles has a bad game, it doesn’t mean they’ll stop fighting. Belichick is just fine with a team continuing to fight, as long as he makes it as hard as possible on them to do so.
Many people think this game will be a blowout, but I think it will be much closer than either team would like it to be. It will be a tough battle for the Patriots, but I think they overcome the Eagles fight and squeeze out a victory.
Good Picks!
